Michael Rivest, Earl Thorpe, & Persell McDowell
WEXT

Michael Rivest, who writes for the TU and does a ton of great things in the community, talked with a couple of friends - Earl Thorpe (who currently sings with The Heavenly Echoes) and Persell McDowell. The two were at the core foundation of "The Brothers," a Civil Rights, activist group formed in Albany in the mid-1960s. Hear about that, and Earl's earlier group The Fidelity's, a doo wop group from the late 50's.

Bovine Social Club
Artist

Surely seeing or hearing a name like Bovine Social Club would conjure up images of cattle gathering.  Is there a club for such a thing?  Well in a sense, yes.  In this case people are not coming together to discuss cows, or any such variation.  Instead, this is a band with a unique and humorous outlook rich in Americana roots. Don't miss this rare treat, April 7th at Wolf Hollow Brew Company.

Lera Lynn

The young woman who was the performer on the second season of HBO's True Detective, Lera Lynn - singer, songwriter, performer, is coming to The Massry Center on February 2nd. For more information, visit the Massry Center website. To buy tickets, click here.

Listen: Hurray for the Riff Raff

Sep 21, 2017
WEXT

After leaving her home in the Bronx as a teenager, Alynda Segarra hitchhiked, train hopped, and made her way to New Orleans where she learned how to play music and started the band Hurray for the Riff Raff. Segarra has proven herself to be a prominent voice for a new generation of folk singer-songwriters. Hurray for the Riff Raff's new album "The Navigator" strays a bit from the band's traditional folk sound, but Segarra shines as she tunes in to her Puerto Rican roots, and shares a powerful message and story.

Happy 35th anniversary, Wanda!
