Bob Dylan "Blonde on Blonde"

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Bob Dylan's "Greatest Hits," which gathered tracks from his first seven albums. Plus, we will celebrate 51 years since the release of "Blonde on Blonde," the release of his 38th album ("Triplicate"), and Bob Dylan being awarded the Nobel Prize for literature.

We are not expecting Bob to show up to accept our accolades, but we do hope you will join us as we celebrate all things Bob, from March 17-24.

Produced by Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.

Helping to make a difference for gender parity, the organizers of International Women's Day work with people, governments and organizations around the world to effect change.  We at WEXT wanted to do our part to highlight the on-going efforts of IWD.

We start the countdown with #200 at 9am with KTG, and don't stop until we get to just ahead of 11pm with Joyce Jackey. IWD information can be found here.

Here's the PDF of this year's list, the Top 97 of 2016. And here's the PDF of the Top 60 Local 518 of 2016.

We are hoping you'll join us by sending along your selections for the Best of 2016.  Send an email.  The DJ's lists are below.

No Depression

Everybody knows I'm a huge Neil Young fan.  Seems like forever.  I was in middle school in Syracuse when I discovered his music.  I used to scan radio stations by turning the knob that moved the needle up and down.  Remember those?  I was always in search for music that was different and unique.  I loved the hip hop and the British punk and the new wave that was exploding.  But it was during one of those late night expeditions with my radio when I discovered Neil.  Wow!  I was hooked.  His voice is at times soft and sincere.  Other times, brash and vitriol

The Band "The Last Waltz" poster

In this region, we are particularly fond of The Band.  With their connections to Woodstock, and the time Dylan was there creating The Basement Tapes with them, we absolutely adore The Band.

Join WEXT as we celebrate the music of The Band, and the artists who made up the band.  We'll be playing sets from The Band and its members all week from October 21 through October 28.  Plus, we are compiling a list of songs from The Band to occupy the whole day of October 28th.

Stanley "Buckwheat" Dural, Jr.

American musical legend Stanley “Buckwheat” Dural, Jr.—leader of the band Buckwheat Zydeco—died on September 24, 2016 of lung cancer at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Grammy and Emmy winning artist was the preeminent ambassador of Louisiana zydeco music. NPR’s Weekend Edition called him "the go-to guy for zydeco music...a master of accordion and organ."

Buckwheat played with everyone from Eric Clapton and U2 to Robert Plant and The Boston Pops. The band performed at the closing ceremonies of the 1996 Summer Olympics and performed for President Clinton twice, celebrating both of his inaugurations. The band appeared on The Late Show With David Letterman, CNN, The Today Show, MTV, NBC News, CBS Morning News and many others.  They were also invited to play the final episode of The Late Show With Jimmy Fallon.
