Carl Daniels
Artist

Carl Daniels is an upstate New York native. After falling in love with music at a young age, he began playing guitar at the age of 12 and almost immediately began writing songs.

Carl has performed in many projects over his musical career and has established himself as an artist in New York's Capital District. Although most live shows consist of just Carl and an acoustic guitar, he presents an aura that leaves audiences in awe.

The Hackensaw Boys are back. The old-time string band has made its own brand of music since 1999, after getting together in Charlottesville, Va. — and though its lineup has changed and its sound mellowed, the group is still going strong. Members David Sickmen, Ferd Moyse and Brian Gorby joined NPR's Scott Simon to talk about the new album Charismo; hear their conversation at the audio link.

Olivia Quillio
Artist

Olivia Quillio captured our hearts something like so years ago with "Easy Killer." Show after show, she continues to thrill us with her passionate performances that transport her and us to another place, another time. Come see as she opens our two afternoon Local 518 music at Tulip Fest. Tulip Fest is Local 51 at the Lakehouse, both Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8. Olivia takes the stage Saturday at 1pm.

Bruce Springsteen at the Barclay Center
Barclay Center

Last night, Bruce Springsteen walked out on stage in Brooklyn. Without introduction, without fanfare, on a stage bathed in purple light, they opened the show with a cover of Prince's "Purple Rain." After the song, Bruce praised Prince, saying, "there's never been any better."

Catch The Meeting With The Boss weekdays at 4pm.

You will find many different fan videos around the Internet. Here are two.

"It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer Prince Rogers Nelson has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57," publicist Yvette Noel-Schure said. "There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time."

Music and politics have always been intertwined, from "Yankee Doodle" to "A Change is Gonna Come." And that's true in Zimbabwe, too — a country that is now facing a historic political transition.

Aussie psych project Tame Impala and electronic star Zhu have given their collaboration "My Life" the video treatment and enlisted Willow Smith as its bittersweet protagonist.

Low Cut Connie is a lot of fun. Sure, it's developed a healthy reputation as a party band, but there's a lot more to discover underneath the sweaty sheen of its intense live shows. Speaking of which, I wish you could see the way lead singer Adam Weiner attacks the piano. At some points, he plays it the same way Superman flies, his body parallel to the ground. It's a sight to see!
